Our Wine

“All the talk in the Australian wine world right now is about Tasmania. The quality of the wines here is receiving accolades and awards nationally and globally.”

Major players in the industry have not only purchased Tasmanian grapes to release in their premium brands as well as investing in vineyards and cellar doors, recognising that Tasmania is the only true cool climate growing region in the country for these premium quality wine grapes.

The Tamar Valley that runs just north of Stillwater hugging both sides of the Tamar River all the way to Pipers River in the NE is the home to the best New World Sparkling wines that are now challenging non-vintage Champagnes. Wines like Arras, Clover Hill, Jansz and Kreglinger continue to rank in the top 10 sparkling wines in Australia.

This climate also suits the white aromatic varieties beautifully and local Rieslings are making an incredible name for themselves, not only on release but with some bottle age these wines are showing grace and elegance.

Pinot Noir is Tasmania's red wine and the East Coast, Coal River Valley and Huon as well as the West Tamar seems to be favoured homes to some of the top vintages that have been produced to date. The varietal fruit character in Tasmanian Pinot Noir is extraordinary and is what makes Tasmanian Pinot unique. The lush plush richness of deep dark berry and cherry fruit characters can produce fruit driven very approachable early release wines or be used well to create complex vintages with judicious use of French oak and winemaking techniques from whole fruit ferments, cold soaks and even some are experimenting with the use of wild yeasts.

The organic and biodynamic winemakers in the State continue to grow and with respected labels like Frogmore, Stephano Lubiana, Pipers Brook and Three Wishes these are not just environmentallly friendly - they're some of the best wines in the country!
